Whitman has a rich history that is deeply rooted in the shoe-making industry. Regal Shoe and Bostonian Shoe are perhaps the most notable companies. At one time there were over 20 shoe factories in town. Similar to BOSTONIAN SHOE LOFTS today many of the remaining factories have been converted to apartments and condominiums.
